Video: Our guest researcher Francesca Vaghi (PhD) delivered an insightful presentation titled Exploring the intersection of food and family intervention policies in England: how are children included? Following the presentation, seminar participants, both in-person and online, shared their questions and thoughts on this crucial issue.
The RDV seminar discussed the intertwining of policies targeting ‘troubled families’ and early years education in England, particularly focusing on interventions related to children’s food policy. Through ethnographic research in London, Vaghi’s research highlights how these intersecting policies often lead to contradictions and arbitrary outcomes, raising questions about the consideration of children’s perspectives and experiences in policy development within the early childhood education landscape.
Francesca Vaghi is a Research Associate at the University of Glasgow, focusing on medical anthropology, policy anthropology, and childhood studies. She completed her PhD at SOAS, University of London, and her research examines children’s food practices, policy implications, and public health discourse, with a particular interest on early childhood food policy.
