The Centre for Research on Discretion and Paternalism at the University of Bergen is seeking a postdoctoral researcher in political science with expertise in advanced quantitative methodologies and interest in comparative child protection research. The application deadline is March 3rd, 2025.
CPS-World (Child Protection Systems Across the World) is an interdisciplinary research project funded by the Research Council of Norway. Led by Professor Marit Skivenes, the project aims to develop a global typology of child protection systems by examining defining elements and boundaries through empirical and theoretical approaches. It employs innovative methodologies, including comparative surveys, vignettes, experiments, and text analysis, to address the core question of governments’ responsibilities to children in vulnerable situations.
This project is the most comprehensive cross-country study ever undertaken in this field. It seeks to explain decisive factors and mechanisms in child protection systems, offering new insights for comparative research in this critical area. CPS-World is a collaboration between international researchers from disciplines such as political science, sociology, law, and psychology.
The selected candidate will conduct independent research, contribute to high-quality publications, assist in data collection and analysis, and collaborate with project partners.
