Protecting Children, Creating Citizens

VIDEO: Recording of the webinar on children’s participation is now available.

As part of the Bergen Exchanges on Law & Social Transformation 2020, the Centre organized a webinar on children’s participation in child protection. The aim was to discuss what inhibits and promotes children’s participation, and how to ensure that the child’s needs and preferences are emphasized in decision-making and policy processes.

Professor Katrin Kriz (Emmanuel College, US) gave a key-note based on her forthcoming book on participatory child protection practice in Norway and the United States. She discussed ways that children can be empowered to participate, and presented insights from front-line child protection professionals’ within two very different system.

The key-note was followed by short presentations from Caroline and Mathilde (Pro’s at The Change Factory – Experts by Experience), Marthe Engedahl (UNICEF),  Katre Luhamaa (University of Tartu) Marit Skivenes (University of Bergen), and a panel discussion with questions from the audience.
